Blender is one of the best free 3D apps I've ever used. While it's interface is cumbersome and difficult to use sometimes (At least in pre 2.5) it is very powerful, and features an extremely good set of tools.

irons: oops, that was unintended. Anyway, no, all the models/maps you see in these screenshots are mine, modeled from scratch. SpkrGhols models are REALLY good though. Especially for meshwork. Wow. Meta: Hm... I see your point, but while darkening is a good thing, the original Marathon pre-rendered ...

I'm not sure you understand me. Example: See those textures below? That's about 9 out of the 25 or so original Lava set textures. Jay Faircloth only made 8 or so. I need more! Not enough variety to choose from right now. A couple I pieced together, and made myself, but I need some others. I'm not ve...

I have plenty of Lava textures now. What I need is textures from the Lava set, NOT the liquid itself.

Pfhorrest: Wow! I really appreciate that! 512x512 is a great size. Hopefully they'll work fine.

Kurinn: Thank you. My lava textures are horrible, but this one is nice.

Meta: Marathon lava does indeed have the consistency of water. :P

Hi! I haven't been here in a while, so I hope I'm posting in the correct area. This thread is not a showcase, but rather, a request. Jay Faircloth, who made the M1A1/Resurrection textures, also made some of the Water/Lava/Sewage, and a couple of the Jjarro set textures. The Water and Sewage sets are...

I thought RED was graphically the most original of all the TCs. I think Morgana was the most fun, and I think Rubicion was the only one that really felt like a continuation of Marathon's story, besides looking awesome. Eternal was OK, but I felt too much like a whole lot of levels just for the sake ...

Well, it wouldn't really big a big deal to make the textures look like gloves. But even then, I'd still have to deal with the Bob and Player models, which have exposed skin, and it's way harder to do this in 3D then in 2D, since in 2D, you only see from certain views, no lighting effects, ect. Still...

Infested Smith I disagree with you on both your claims. 1) To me those are clearly gloves. A dark skinned person don't have the same hue on his/her palms as on the back of the hand and the rest of the body. It is usually a little fairer. Also, there are no visible nails (there isn't the slightest h...

Many thanks for all the comments.

That looks like skin to me, not gloves. You can see the player's skin quite clearly in the player sprites, as well as in WiH sprites. Mullins also painted the player as light skinned.

Man! :P Ill take back what I said earlier about purple and rephrase it into this: Purple is a color I don't usually see being used for textures in a good manner, but I do think it looks good in Nova. Too bad purple wasn't used more in the Pfhor texture sets. I always thought it would fit so well. P...

That's an important point. Half-Life's strength wasn't so much the realism as the level of immersion. It's actually a good thing to be unrealistic, because realism isn't as fun as it sounds. What keeps the player interested is richness, detail, and variety, so long as they're all present for the sa...

a lot of Modern FPS games and games in general are SHIT!!!! I agree. Crysis was amazing...for 5 minutes. Resistance 2 was amazing...for 5 minutes... Gears of War was amazing...for 5 minutes... Even Turok was alright...for 5 minutes... What I am aiming at is the classic 3D games like Half-Life, Half...

Oh, sure, if you just want to screw around and have fun with friends for a few hours, consoles (and Halo) are OK. You can't, of course, compare that in any way to Marathon and the deep story discussions, innumerable third party scenarios and net maps, tributary music and artwork, ports to other pla...

He didn't say he didn't like it because it wasn't Marathon. He laments Bungie having lost what it had when it made Marathon. Contrast Duality and Halo: one was on its way to being a fantastic FPS with a great story, innovative level design, on a platform with sane controls where shooters don't feel...
