Re: Marathon 1 style music for project (Updated 2nd July)
Very nice! Sounds like it fits the original Marathon soundtrack. I'd say it's even better than most of the original music. Some of it reminds me of Red Faction and Far Cry: Blood Dragon's soundtracks.

Re: What would you look for in a "Marathon 2015" remake?
Well you'd be going up against this remake of Entryway for Doom 2 in UE4, which looks pretty good already :V The Doom 2 remake got hit with a Cease and Desist from Bethesda, unfortunately. Even if it wasn't, why not go for a remake of Marathon for the UE4 engine? Resurrection, while great, was a wh...

Re: losing classic scenarios?
Redownloading the game fixed the lag problem, but of course the dossier bug still occurs. I'll try this at some point but I don't want to lose my saved games again, at least not at this moment.

Re: losing classic scenarios?
It seems I can't edit the file with TextEdit or any other word processing program. Will this fix the lag problem? It lags no matter what driver I use now. I also noted that sometimes the mouse cursor doesn't disappear from the screen in game anymore after using the map...that may be related to the l...

Re: losing classic scenarios?
Ok, now the game launches when I select the Mac driver but the dossiers and screen headers still don't appear.
Worse, now the game lags tremendously whenever I turn in game, Mac driver activated or not.

I installed one of the latest updates at the link but the problem about DI not launching still persists whenever I use Mac drivers.

Thank you again. I tried having Wine use the Mac driver but then DI doesn't launch at all.

Re: losing classic scenarios?
Thanks! I have noticed a problem; squad dossiers and image overlays don't appear correctly on my computer (it goes to a black screen), and it has issues registering the command key on my mac; I can't access the "mandatory suicide" mode. I have the command key assigned as my "crouch&qu...

I kid you not - I have both games running pretty well in Wine. They are not freeware though afaik - or are they? A bit late, but do you still have Damage Incorporated for Wine? The game is freeware and you can download it from anywhere...I can't figure out how to get it to work right for Wine and e...

Re: What If Marathon Had Been A Windows Game?
A curiosity. In the brutally competitive DOS gaming environment (in 1994, Windows was something you quit before playing games), Marathon never finds its audience compared to the more viscerally satisfying DOOM. There's still a fan site online with some level maps, and a few years ago somebody tried...

Re: anyone ever done this?
Has anyone tried to build a scenario with undead? It would be cool to try to simulate a zombie plague. What about one based on Star Wars? A Force-based "weapon" (lightning, 0-damage TK throw, etc) could be interesting to script. Thinking a "shared ammo pool" that was drained at ...

Re: Rambling about AI sentience and cyborg hardware
The shield part never made sense to me, given how when compared to other, explicitly shielded characters in game (such as the S'pht'Kr) the player bled when hit. Since the Security Officer clearly appeared to be wearing body armor, I figured the health bar in game was actually the player's health. T...

Re: Games Using The Marathon 2 Engine - A Review
those features aren't in Damage. I wonder whether Prime Target even uses the same system for swinging doors as Damage. Actually the moving floors are in Damage as well; I recall there being conveyor belts in several levels. Did you try burning the image to CD? Unfortunately, my Mac computer is a Ma...

Re: Games Using The Marathon 2 Engine - A Review
Interesting stuff. I remember Year of the Tiger was pretty nice and somehow they managed to hack the DI engine to add new textures and scenery graphics. The site implies that there were new weapons/enemies but I don't remember seeing any. Yeah, Prime Target always looked real interesting to me, espe...

Games Using The Marathon 2 Engine - A Review
With the recent discussion about reverse engineering Damage Incorporated's code, I wanted to write down my experiences with the obscure games that used the Marathon 2 engine, and see what other people thought about them. I figured the Chat section would be the best place to do so. ZPC : To be honest...

Re: Damage Inc. Reversing
Damage was one of my favourite games when I was a child. I haven't played since, but I remember the squad management being the ultimate form of AI in computer games... I won't play it again since I don't want to spoil those good memories. Also it contained a wolf howl sample that I have heard *ever...

Re: losing classic scenarios?
Anyone have the Wine emulated version of Trojan? The d/l link appears to be broken. Failing that, an Aleph One script allowing me to use the music (which I have in .mp3 format) in the map? Also, and this is more of a stretch, anyone have a Mac Os X/Windows compatible version/transcript of the Trojan...

Re: MML Help -Vacuum Enabled Weapons
I'm using a custom physics model, and I figure I'll have to edit the script to allow the frame to show up. It's not letting me do that however.
On a related note the AO errors seem to have stopped, not sure why but I'm not complaining!

Re: MML Help -Vacuum Enabled Weapons
Alright, revised again, there were a few smart quotes that I missed. M2/MInf now work. However, Tempus Irae still has the same problem. Also, I'm trying to figure out how to get the blue Hunter's soft dead frame to show up with the HD Monsters plug in. Currently it just shows a distorted, original l...

Re: MML Help -Vacuum Enabled Weapons
There were smart quotes in the file, so I changed them. However, now Aleph One asks me to select a scenario on launch. When I attempt to and launch, it gives me this message:
Please be sure the files 'Map', 'Shapes', 'Images' and 'Sounds' are correctly installed and try again. (error -1)

Re: MML Help -Vacuum Enabled Weapons
I used Open Office to write the MML script. I'll give a shot at writing it in TextEdit. Also, on a semi-unrelated note, I've noticed that textures/teleportation effects in Tempus Irae have a strange yellowish cast to them where they should be stark white. I'll try reinstalling the high-res textures,...

Re: MML Help -Vacuum Enabled Weapons
The transparent liquid ones that came with Aleph One work, and the embedded scripts in Kill 'em All appear to work too. Lua scripts work perfectly as well. I'm stumped as to why mine doesn't function.

Re: MML Help -Vacuum Enabled Weapons
Anyone able to tell me what's wrong? From what I can tell the game isn't even loading the .mml script, the log doesn't seem to reference it at all. The game itself runs fine, its just that this particular .mml script isn't being loaded.
