Scope script?

Discuss and unveil current Marathon projects.

I had an Idea for a script where when you press the zoom/fish eye vision it would bring a scope up to the screen. Is this at all possible?

Here are photoshopped screen caps to show what I had in mind...

Before you go down that route, make sure you know what the engine already provides with F7 and F8; they may already suit your purposes.

A while back, someone (i think it was Irons) uploaded a script for using the alt fire as the F7 command. Basically, a scope zoom.

Lua HUDs can detect when you zoom in via F7 (see Screen.field_of_view). So, a custom HUD could swap to a special sniper-mode when the zoom is triggered, like your mockup.

Those are Forrest's textures, likely from the orphanage.

It's the level Babylon X from the scenario Marathon Eternal X. He seems to be in the bottom right corner of the map. However, I don't think you're supposed to go there. ;)

I'm curious, what exactly do you think this will add to the gameplay?

if (document.URL != "http://www.simplici7y.com/reviews") window.onload = rate;

Thank you for your interest. Unfortunately I have no prior experience with scripting or with C+ programing, so it's stuck at the the idea phase. This is why I 'm reaching out for any help.

Correct! Don't remember why I was at that point in the map. I did not alter my position during these screen caps. One is simply with the zoom on with a scope crosshair placed over the screen cap in Photoshop.

There are some weapons in the various scenarios that have incredible accuracy, and although the game doesn't call for it much this could make your sniping shots a little easier. Not to mention the "scope" like crosshair would allow you to focus your long distance shots easier.

Sorry for the late replies everyone!
