I Have a terminal problem

When i use the terminal in my map i wrote the terminals with hex by the way.
I only here the beep(nothing else happens like no terminal screen. how do i fix this.

Actually this has happened to me before, but I never figured out how to fix this. Look in the merge log and it might tell yoou what is wrong... the way I overcame it is giving up my map.

I use hex only for colors/effects ect. Simpletext is for actuall typing it.

I use hex for everything terminal related.

1. In forge click on the terminal and choose a terminal number

2.savemapfile as Lxx.levelname (xx is a number of choice)
3.create a hexdocument and save it as Txx.levelname

4.In hex, create a terminal with the same id as the one in forge
5.write your text and edit the terminal to your liking

6.merge to two files together with forge.

how about postin' up your mapfile so we'll have more information as to what could have gone wrong. What you describe in your initial post sounds to me like the terminal you are trying to access ingame is refering to a non existent terminal, i.e. you mixed up the terminal ID.

ok, problem is that the level has a different name than the terminal text file/the pics. Also the Terminal needs to be set to display script 0 rather than script 1 in Forge's visual mode.
Perhaps you can try to give it a run yourself again, because the terminal images in your zip file are broken ( a resource fork issue ).

Does anyone have a good link to a tutorial about how to add pics to the resedit file?

I copied and pasted a few of my own pics, made sure the terminal was scripted properly, and merged. I looked ino the merge log, and it said that it added pics 128, 129, and 130. The files were origionally .tiff, but after they didn't work I changed them to .bmp. Still, they do not work. The terminal loads, and all the text is displayed, along with colors / checkpoints / etc, but, instead of a pic I get a "could not find pict xxx" [130] error.

Just ask if it would help for me to upload the files.



This is unrelated to the topic, but why is it that I can't post new threads?

This is what the engine (and mac in general) thinks about tiff and bmp: [MDown]

Resize your images to 307x266, and convert them to .jpg or .pict before you paste them into the reseditfile.

Even JPEGs have to be PICT encoded right now. So, must be PICT. Aleph One will do a nasty ugly resize if you go bigger than 307x266 :)
