It shows firing juggernauts each time it says there are new posts. If a post is never looked at it thinks that it is new. Is there a way to make it think its not new after so long?

You have to temporally switch back to the IPB skin to do this, but this should do the trick:
1.) Go to the forum you want to not be considered new.
2.) Click "Forum Options" (top right corner).
3.) Choose it to be read.

Actually a nice trick around this is that if the forum jugg in the index says the forum has new posts and you know it doesn't just click the jugg instead of the name, it will clear all topics read
