You know what, since this thread"s not really going anywhere do you mind if I tangent it off a little by asking why you guys haven't made Aleph One compatible with Pathways into Darkness? I noticed it uploaded to Macintosh Garden a while back & wanted to try it since. Also, I already know there's a PiD remake/replica hidden in the scripts section of Simplici7y, but it's Infinity themed main menu gives it an incomplete feel.

No, that sounds like a good idea.

Oh, you're asking me why I personally haven't done it? I don't do that kind of thing.

Regardless of where this thread has gone, the Pfhorums will stay better organized if you start a new thread for a whole new avenue of discussion like Pathways into Darkness.

However since you've already asked the question, the answer is largely the same reason, just to a different degree, that Halo has not been made compatible with Minotaur, or that a chicken could not breed with a Tyrannosaurus.

The modern option for playing Pathways into Darkness today is the Cocoa port released on the Mac App Store, which requires OS X 10.6 and a 64-bit processor. I don't think any other ports exist.

Dodorexes are possible, so I don't see why a chicken would be so impossible. Have you actually tried?

So I take it Bungie never released the source to PiD. Damn! To be fair, the reason I asked is because I remember reading somewhere (don't feel like finding a source at the moment) that although PiD & the Marathon series use different engines, the engines are closely related. In fact Aleph One is essentially just the PiD engine's descendant. Not sure if it's true, but it's what I read.

Seems like an unhappy chap.

this is the source file that will make minotaur's sound manager look like a truckload of dead rats in a tampon factory.

I think I may have found another PiD OS X port here. It's only available in source code. That means I'm going to have to dust off good ol' gcc again.

I was going to release my cross platform port of PiD after I finished my 3d marathon project, but you guys were really mean to me. The community doesn't deserve it now.

I haven't been mean to you. Also, in the short time I've been in this community, I've learned that you should just treat all insults (or at least iron/wrk/patrick's) as a joke.

What community? Apart from the oldfags on the story forum and the occasional sprinklings of conversation in one of the likely many discords, and this absolutely cancerous place, there IS no community.

Is this issue still open for discussion, or should AlephOne be considered dead at this point?

There are still some projects being worked on more or less—albeit at a snail's pace. I check in on the Halathon thread every couple months to see the progress.

Yes: This thread is not locked and this is still up for discussion.

No: AlephOne is not dead. This forum sees activity, if sparse, and netgames are still hosted.
