It's because we're all a bunch of nerds. And I mean that in a good way. :P

Graphics card/driver not up to snuff. It can't run the shader program that draws the bumps, and the colors come from the bump data getting misinterpreted by whatever fallback logic is running instead.

IIRC, I even saw this happen on a machine under 10.5, and under 10.6 it was fixed. I might be getting confused with a different bug, but Apple definitely had some GL driver issues in that time period, which made Shader development more of an adventure than I would have liked. As you can tell from this thread, there are a lot of ways things can go wrong!

So basically if apple hadn't discontinued PPC until Lion I wouldn't have this issue.

Hey I have been seeing weird distortions in the textures when I turn shaders on and I can't get it to stop glitching. Anyone know how to fix this?

Lj6014, do you see the same distortions if you turn off "Bloom Effects" and "Bump Mapping" in Preferences > Graphics > Rendering Options? I haven't seen this before, but it'd be helpful to know if either of those options are part of the problem.

I have tried that, I have turned every option off and put it on the lowest quality but I still get those weird distortions, I even turned all my plugins and scripts off.
