You do have a point Rokyo, it's basically just a text based Let's play.

#1: I'm not going on YouTube. Period. Don't ask why - that's just the way it is.

#2: If you hadn't noticed, Narcogen and Blackstar have already done their own YouTube Let's Plays of Marathon, Marathon 2, Marathon Infinity, Marathon: Evil, and Tempus Irae. All of that in addition to their on-going Let's Plays of Myth, Minecraft, and Mass Effect - a wide variety of games that's likely to draw in viewers from other parts of the gaming world and (hopefully) link them up with Aleph One.

At least take a poll about whether to go on YouTube or not, then ignore the results if you don't like them.

@W'rk: I told you not to ask, and you asked.

@Treellama: I told you that this wasn't a question - it's simply not going to happen. And if it does, I want no part in it.

Do you just not like google or something? Don't like the idea that they track your every move?

That's where the ToD is different. It is difficult to actually play through a scenario by following along with a youtube, but very easy with a text version. Especially when you read it and think: that's not how I remember it. In the spoiler guide for Durandal, for example, at one point it says go here and do thus and such. Well I go there and there is neither thus nor such to do.
So while a ToD could be called a text based let's play, it has some advantages over a youtube such as usually some added analysis or background that is just not feasible in a video.
And, it's available as a post in the story forum, you don't have to go to another site.
I just play 'em; I don't know how they work.

@HelviusRufus: Couldn't have said it better myself.

@3371-Alpha: Something like that, yes.

@W'rk: No. Can we move on, please?

Actually, I was never banned, because there was never anything/anyone to ban - I simply don't post anything on YouTube.

I'm sorry, but what possible analysis or background can you do in text that isn't feasible in video format? There isn't any. Any representation of a video game that you do in text can be done in video format and it can be done better, primarily because it is also a realtime, visual medium like video games. The only downside is that, again, it takes a lot more work and effort to produce a video than it does to plaster a wall of meandering text and a couple of unaltered screenshots.

I would agree with HelviusRufus to the extent that, for people who use Let's Play videos, ToD's, or similar in-depth commentary as a guide as they themselves play a game, it's easier to keep a webpage of text open and consult it at their own pace as they play, than it is to keep a webpage of streaming video open and either try to keep up or constantly pause and scrub through it.

Clearly Aleph One needs a system of audio commentary nodes. ;)

Sure, it might be easier to look up a text walkthrough than a video walkthrough, but a video walkthrough is still more clear and understandable. As HelviusRufus illustrated in his own example, text can only do so much in describing where to go and what to do in a detailed, three dimensional space. Conversely, a video simply shows you what to do as you see it in the game. Also, if you're so reliant on a walkthrough that you'd have to constantly "keep up" with it or "constantly... scrub through it" then at that point you're not actually playing the game anymore, and you might as well quit and just go watch a let's play anyway.
