What I meant was was it legal for Paranoid Productions to sell Damage Incorporated? Assuming you replace all the marathon assets with your own (replace the HUD, textures & music/audio files) can you do it?

They licensed the Marathon 2 engine from Bungie.
And yes, you can sell something containing absolutely no original Bungie/Marathon content that runs on Aleph One, and bundle Aleph One with it so long as you comply with the terms of the GPL in the process (mostly, you include the source code with it).

Alrighty then, I have another question (yes seriously, get over it). I don't mean to stir any controversy when I ask this, but wouldn't Aleph One perform more efficiently if you eliminated SDL altogether? I ask this because I remember reading that wrapper software (which SDL just so happens to be categorized as) is very inefficient because it's merely a translation layer that converts incompatible APIs into ones that can be read by the current operating system (similar concept as an emulator though not as complex). I understand that SDL makes Aleph One more portable and that we don't exactly have the development power at the moment to rewrite it's APIs (let alone make a version for each operation system), but I'm simply wondering if it, in theory, would be more efficient?

Ray wrote Aleph Two and not only did he remove SDL, he removed a huge amount of the other code as well. It was crazy efficient. So, I think you may be on to something.

Where is this Aleph Two? This isn't another one of your jokes is it?

I'm dead serious. I don't know where you can get it from though, you might have to track down Ray. Regardless of whether or not you can still get it, I think it answers your question.

Alright, I'm going to go again. This may sound like a really stupid question, but that's exactly the reason I named this thread that. What does it mean when a Pfhorums member's name is grayed out? I noticed this a lot in the Pigeon Lounge. I'm going to assume it means they're banned, right?

Thanks for pointing out the Pigeon Lounge, it led me to this topic, which was actually pretty fun to read again.
Yes, a gray name means their account was deleted/banned. A lot of people chose to have their account removed by posting in a topic Ryoko conveniently set up for that purpose.

What's it take to get banned from the Pfhorums (besides piracy, posting porno pics, disrespecting the admins & posting in Ryoko's special thread)? I ask because some sites (the nazis that run EA's Battlelog) don't even allow you to curse on there forums.

Yes, yes. I get it, you're very lenient here. But is there anything besides fapping & piracy that can get you banned?

Playing Marathon with crosshairs turned on; making map titles that are puns on for/four/Pfhor; talking about Marathon Eternal as though it were canon; existing. These are all things that can get you banned.

You forgot to add playing Marathon with the run key bound to capslock.philtron wrote:Playing Marathon with crosshairs turned on; making map titles that are puns on for/four/Pfhor; talking about Marathon Eternal as though it were canon; existing. These are all things that can get you banned.

I can't believe you egged W'rk into disrespecting me like that, 3371. I'm seriously considering banning you for getting w'rk to post that image. What an incredibly insensitive thing for a newbie already on thin ice such as yourself to do.
