I'd wait until Tuesday if I were you. Apple's supposedly releasing the MacBooks to replace the iBooks. You might want one of those instead.
Switch is right, no OS9 (natively at least) on the Intels. You could emulate an old Mac, or just go and pick up an old Powerbook or something along those lines for practically nothing offa ebay.

would you suggest getting a non-intel computer?
and if i do get an intel i would have to install an emulator first and then put 9 on there?

Absolutely not. Go Intel.Dieselfame3 wrote: would you suggest getting a non-intel computer?
I'd suggest the MacBook because you might need it for classes and such. I'd also suggest waiting till Tuesday, as Pakkman said.

well, my theory with intel and os9 is that emulators will run great with such a powerfull system, emulating rather old technology. It wouldnt be as bad as running an emulator for a graphic intense game system
Not going to vote, but I will make a suggestion...

Wow, If I asked my parents for nearly $3000, they'd just laugh at me o_O It was a stretch to get my $700 eMac, and I had to pay a third of it.
You lucky son of a b*tch!!! (No offense meant, other than the fact that you are uber lucky)

Ok my brother and his friend are your same age, I think they will both get macbookpros.
If ur taking it to university, then I suggest mbp, but if your going to be staying at university all year long (no comng back home on weekends), I'd say the iMac.
I voted mbp.

I'd go for the laptop myself, but if you can, you might want to wait a generation, there's the whole thing with the thermal paste on the macbook pros. If I find the article again I'll post a link.

I'd say MacBookPro or G5 Tower...but since one of your choices isn't a "Tower" my opinion is invalidated anyway.
Fuck the iMac I say!!! Why you ask? Because you can't upgrade it very much....sure....you can upgrade the memory and the harddrive...but hell, you don't need to upgrade the video card do you?!
...now the MBP I can see it being hard to upgrade...mainly because its small and its hard to jam everything in that case.
But seriously...if money isn't a problem go for the Intel Mac Towers...
