The SOPA Bill

Chat and discussion not related to either Marathon or Aleph One. Please keep things at least mildly interesting, though.

This is nuts. The Stop Online Piracy Act will kill our priveledge to communicate freely on English-language websites. The pfhorums could be destroyed if someone here so much as posts a link the American Government and the Entertainment Industry doesn't like. People can go to jail for 5 years just by streaming copywrighted material! Just think about all the vidmasters hard work vidding to make vids. If this Bill becomes legal, nobody will be allowed to share them because marathon is copyrighted material owned by Bunjie. It sort of has freeware status now, so I don't know how far that goes, and I'm sure the Bunjie dudes are nice guys who wont block anything, but I seriously have doubts about the safety of user-made scenarios. The Bill is worded so vaguely, they could be a target of destruction.

Go to http://americancensorship.org/ and tell congress to vote NO on SOPA.

Make fun of me for the English Language's sporadic conventions making privilege unnatural to spell.
Also copyright is weird because I think it's written down, as in writing, but it's also their right, so put together that makes copywright.

Occupy The Meta.

(In all seriousness this is pretty scary. Hopefully the Democrats'll support it so the Repubs will be forced to filibuster it to death.)

Lol... this just gave me a brilliant idea.

Any time Republicans are about to pass a law that Democrats don't want, just have Obama proclaim "I fully support this endeavor in the furtherance of the American Socialist Utopia!" Whether it has anything to do with socialism or not. Then watch the Republicans shit their pants about pushing something "socialist" that Obama likes, and quickly move to block their own proposal.

Unfortunately it looks like both major parties are loving this bill....

rather, copywrights are journeyman journalists; copywights are patent attorneys.

not be confused with copyrights, students who cheat their way to good marks, copyrites, the preparatory meditations undertaken by a lama wishing to bilocate, nor copywrites, which are versioning filesystems.

Scanning...just dust and echoes. We're all that's left. We did what we had to do! For Earth. An entire Covenant armada obliterated and the Flood! We had no choice. Halo-it's finished.
No. I think we're just getting started.

Jan 18 showed big brother that a lot of people hated it. Wikipedia, Google, Wordpress, Mozilla, Wired, Craigslist, all did a good job showing that these bills are simply something that we won't put up with. And yesterday, Anonymous clearly showed big brother that such a thing their striving for will have dire consequences. Simply put, the cure is more devastating than the disease. Big Brother brought down Megaupload, and Anonymous brought down a dozen sites, those that were Federal and big SOPA supporters (movie companies, etc.). This clearly demonstrates that the government can't just go in and shut everything down, unless, of course, if they, themselves, want to be shut down. These bills are just not feasible.

So I'm happy to say it's very unlikely that we'll be having a "Great Firewall of America" anytime soon, those bills were doomed to fail. :D

Well if any of this Soup, ACTA, and other stuff gets apporved, it's very likely in my opinion that we are all screwed somehow whether it's legitimate or not. Did anyone else see what kind of people have been sued by Obama and his RIAA lawyers? Dead people, stroke victums, and childeren under 12, how greedy there are.

I weep for Chat---it is dead!
O, weep for Chat! though our tears
End not the SOPA discussion
Which wrap so dear a head!
And thou, sad Hour, chosen from all years
To mourn our loss, rouse thy obscure CLIQUEmen,
And teach them thine own sorrow, say: "With me
Died Chat; and though the Future dares
Forget the Past, its fate and fame shall be
An echo and legend unto infinitys!"
dude, seriously. dude.
