Re: Is netplay canon?

netplay takes place in the SO's lonely cyborg mind, representing his desire for companionship. this is why in infinity there are several secret levels which can only be reached in co-op; they are clearly not "real" areas, just dreamlike corruptions of other levels. and why is duality, an emfh net le...

Re: Website (For reallier)

my advice to u: if you find yourself thinking about other people saying/thinking things about you, start drawing or adding something to your website.

i'm not saying it will "cure" anything but it might help you feel less "sick".

Re: [question] Jump, but only a limited height

The great thing about open source software is that anyone is free to spend their time developing a different engine spinoff with whatever features they think are important. People with complaints about the direction of Aleph One are entirely free to spend their time developing their own codebase wit...

I really like this one :0 Some instruments are mixed really loud though and it gets pretty overwhelming at points. Not sure how much control you have of that with whatever midi arranger you're using.

Re: Xbox One controller - Aleph One?

Closest I can think of is the function in VML that lets you pick a polygon and teleport to it. I'm sure that code could be used in single player.

Re: Eternal X 1.2

I agree that it is a pretty hard/frustrating level to vid, but it isn't 'broken' or anything. Playing with proper ammo it's very doable, and during normal gameplay anyone would have the option of dropping the difficulty to normal or major damage. A level being hard on TC isn't really an issue at all...

Re: Long time no see!

I don't plan on stickying anything related to "in progress" scenarios since a) they may never be finished and b) they will probably be one of the only active threads in view new posts anyway. However, if someone wants to create a more up to date catalogue of (good) completed scenarios, I'll sticky t...

Re: Aleph One 1.3b1

I don't think you have to worry; I've never known a developer who removed features because they didn't like them. Sometimes, however, features are deprecated because of necessary code or library changes/updates that make them unfeasible to maintain. The best thing to do is probably to just trust tha...

Re: I will play every level in Marathon 2, and comment on th

Same, Flowers. Abandoned Rental Trucks is actually one of my favourite levels in M2; I find it has really unique architecture for the series and an interesting desolate sort of mood. I think I subconsciously always connected the very rectangular architecture of the level with Thoth. It feels like a ...

Re: I will play every level in Marathon 2, and comment on th

Yeah it really comes down to personal taste. That said I always found it more fun to play adhering to the 'extended' vid rules, especially the do nots, which I guess are sorta canonical when it comes to vidding.

Re: Music volume and ReplayGain/FLAC support

I just feel like if that really were a problem then someone would have brought it up by now, but this issue seems to be unique to the masters you've made. And it is a big ask when you come to a forum and tell the uncompensated developer(s) of a free game engine from 1996 that the engine is inadequat...

Re: Music volume and ReplayGain/FLAC support

If increasing the gain of a track would reduce the dynamic range, then you're saying it would clip. Thus adding gain adjustment to AlephOne wouldn't fix the problem; you would just rather have other people be able destroy audio quality in an unpredictable manner than let them use a master that sound...

Re: Music volume and ReplayGain/FLAC support

I don't need an explanation of dynamics or how digital audio works; I do audio/dsp programming and have been producing music digitally for years + do my own (albeit crude and unprofessional) mastering. ReplayGain algorithms are for contexts where you don't have control over the mastering of tracks r...

Re: Music volume and ReplayGain/FLAC support

I don't really understand what you're asking for. If dynamic range is the problem, then how would more volume options help unless you're expecting the player to constantly adjust the music level in-game (which the player should not have to do)? Or if it's a problem with consistency across tracks, th...

Re: Lua tables

You can actually just use stand directly. I made a small script which hopefully will help a little bit; it just sets the player's polygon to one texture and every other poly to a different floor texture: stand = nil Triggers = {} function Triggers.init() stand = Players[0].polygon end function Trigg...
