Simple horror project.

I have been ruminating about making a Marathon-engine rendition of the SCP-087 game. Have a long staircase and have a modified 'Yeti' who runs at player-speed and is unkillable. Also no background noise but a haunting musical score in its place. Good idea?

Re: I Am Going to Start Using Weland/Vasara. Terminal help?

Interesting. Advice taken. I will get Atque and do some terminal sleuthing of my own. (Probably after I play all the games again. Still going through TGI as we speak and have Phoenix, Eternal, and Rubicon Pfhor Plank to go.)

I Am Going to Start Using Weland/Vasara. Terminal help?

I am already familiar with Weland and know how to design level geometry, but I need help on terminals. If I make a terminal texture in-game, what is the way I can make a terminal with it? I assume I need Atque to make that work, but the code still bewilders me. I am seeking to make a terminal-less l...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

Deus Ex has like 4 different layers of greatness from watching a review of it. The politics of the game are actually real facts of today's world. Great storyline. Stealthy. (Haven't played it myself but it looks fascinating.) And the article has no #1. It just screws up. I think it's just a poorly m...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

Unfortunately. I cannot port-forward so someone else would have to host and we could join in. I am now at 'Just Run Around And Shoot Some Stuff' level of TGI.

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

What time is it there? It's 10:53 PM here and I'm thinking about 11:30 or so. I'm new to this and tend to be anxious when meeting others real-time. I'm thinking of the Pfhor plank in Rubicon. I beat Salinger AND Tycho plank already in the last week.

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

FYI, I just remembered that tonight is co-op night and I am on the PC prepared to host a server. I wonder what scenario it should be. Something original or something fan-made.

I'm weighing on either Infinity, Rubicon, or Phoenix. (I have an old version of Eternal so it runs clean.)

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

Agreed. Objectively, the fan-made games are better, but the Trilogy is more important conceptually because without the origin, there is no successor. P.S. If Rubicon was $20, I would shell out $20 to have it. Being free, though, makes the game feel that more amazing. It's easily as good as a triple-...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

It's so rare to have a game base so open-ended that the originals could easily be bested by the fans, and by Murphy's law, they have been bested almost a half-dozen times. Rubicon Phoenix EVIL TGI Eternal Those scenarios I enjoy more than the original trilogy. On a campier side, Marathon Yuge is ext...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

TGI and Phoenix are two completely different scenarios. Nothing to compare. Just the same creator and similar styles. I love them both in different ways. TGI feels like a half Phoenix, half Infinity. Phoenix feels complete though. (Not to say TGI isn't complete, just a bridge of sorts.) Can't stress...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

TGI is the predecessor game, yes. That level, in a way, resembles Escape Two Thousand, from what I know. https://www.lhowon.org/level/marathon-phoenix-se/18 Both fabulous and challenging. Off topic, but I tested OpenGL Shaders and now looking up and down simulates a genuine 3D game. It's a bit freak...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

A map of that style detail with ~200 polygons would take about half the time of a Halo campaign. A 4 hour map with conservative polygon use. My kind of thing frankly. There seriously needs to be a level scheme like that. 2 or 3 extremely long levels, each level being an act of the game. Essentially ...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

I would go with anything <2000 polygons then, since I wouldn't be heavily implementing things like highly nuanced geometry and such. Thinking of like Ne Cede Malis on horror steroids or something and unexpected scares via triggered silent doors and possibly having Pfhor fighters who are fast and mak...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

I was thinking of my scenario idea being a massive single level instead, thinking of a 1.5 hour playthrough length and about 5k polygons. Y'know, it'll really piss RyokoTK off because it's essentially half a campaign in one level. Don't worry, pattern buffers will be plenty enough to cope with the l...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

I think Aleph One is essentially the M2/Infinity engine on serious steroids and made compatible with most operating systems. I've played Marathon Aeon and had levels with polygon levels far beyond 2000.

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

That was the level, yep. Treellama should know I've played most of the available Marathon games. The first one isn't my favorite game, true, but it's definitely good for what it is. The reason why I rated it lower than the rest is because I don't have any nostalgia for Marathon. I discovered it in 2...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

I actually beat it three times at least. I know the final level like the tip of my finger. I think it was before Marathon 1's original files were fully compatible with Aleph One. I remember a different version having some kind of secret level. The original M1 doesn't have any, although there is a 5D...

Might've been some other version. I remember years ago picking some random level not seen in the original game and having to run away from unkillable black hulks.

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

I've tried Pfh'Joueur but I found the graphics application to be very, very hit and miss. Textures carelessly strewn about much? Especially for the second level. Personal opinion.

I have been wanting to try Fell since it has like 6 endings and has zombie Pfhor. Any way I can find it?

9. Marathon. Graphics: 4/10 ~ The game, in my opinion, feels slightly more primitive than Doom in these regards. Gameplay: 8/10 ~ The gameplay is much more advanced than Doom and very innovative. Story: 8/10 ~ Great storytelling and innovative as well. You can see they are the company who would make...

Re: My favorite Marathon scenarios. (And least favorite.)

I beat Marathon EVIL for the first time yesterday. Watched a friggin' YouTube video to figure out the damn code in the level Septic Exodus and realized it was deceptively simple. The levels after it were slightly mediocre. I am actually going to give an in-depth reason for my reviews shortly.
