Re: Is Aleph One emulating? Or a source port? or what?

Ah. I didn't know that the source code was released.

Dang. So I still can't play the Mac version of Castles II without some mac emulator And it's not like there's an easy "MacBox" program designed to run individual games.

Is Aleph One emulating? Or a source port? or what?

I'm just a little curious how Aleph One is running Marathon beneath the hood. Is it some sort of self-enclosed Mac emulator? Or did someone get the source code to Marathon and make a source port? Or is this a whole new engine that is painstakingly recreating Marathon on windows, or what? The real re...

Re: Multiplayer Options

Marscaleb, if you do end up including marathon, please let us know how many people that had never played it before ended up liking it. Well since you did ask... We had one group of two people that specifically asked to play Marathon. They played two rounds on two maps. That puts it ahead of people ...

Re: Multiplayer Options

I don't get automatic map cycling or games. If there's a human playing, the human can select the next map / host the next game. If there's no human playing, then what's the point of cycling? Well as I said I'm setting this up for a convention. People are going to be there who may have never played ...

Re: Multiplayer Options

To give you an idea on the marathon timeframe, people have been wanting dedicated servers for over a decade. 2015 was the last stable release of Aleph One (although a new version seems to be coming soon). Well, map cycling is more important to me than dedicated servers. Theoretically it's easier to...

Re: Multiplayer Options

The score limit || time limit can be done with a custom lua gametype script. Okay; that's cool. Where would I find information about how to create and use lua scripts with Aleph One? "And since the game automatically tracks up and down (right?) is seems to be an unnecessary feature." No. This makes...

Re: 3D game engine that works like marathon

Here's a good example for how to build that kind of an engine:

https://youtu.be/HQYsFshbkYw

I know the title says "Doom-style Engine" but it is really a Build-Style engine, using portals an enabling for overlapping sectors, as is done in Duke Nukem 3D and Marathon.

Multiplayer Options

So I was toying around with the multiplayer in Marathon Infinity, testing a couple multiplayer games between my desktop and my laptop, and I'm wondering if it would be possible to implement a couple features. (I assume this should be posted on this thread, since this is really about using Aleph One ...

Re: Is there a way to play in a more vanilla (chocolate) way

Hey, that's what I was looking for! Honestly I feel like half of those high-res textures look kinda cheap and amateurish. While we're going over settings to make the game look more like its classic self, what about the graphics options for fog, static effect, transparent liquids, and color effects? ...

Is there a way to play in a more vanilla (chocolate) way?

Is there a way to play this game in a more vanilla fashion? Or rather, something like a Chocolate Marathon? (As in, a modern version designed to play like the original "vanilla" version with changes only made for compatibility and controls.) This is pretty sweet to be able to play this game again, b...
