Re: Mararthon: Yuge / YugePax
Yeah I just hit Pave in Weland so I could walk around in the map real quick before I submitted it.

I wrote and stickied this thread literally over a decade ago, I don't really feel that strongly about the point anymore.PerseusSpartacus wrote: Also, you do realize that you're just asking for W'rk, irons and RyokoTK to turn on you, right?

Re: YugePax
Ten thousand crappy KTA maps would probably be good enough for the co-op experience actually, I'd help.

Re: Official Unofficialmaps
It's a good thing that the ghosts aren't aggressive. They're effective in faking out the player (it fooled me) without being overbearing. These are really good maps and are an effective way of embedding Lua in novel ways that don't get in the way of the gameplay. Takecovermap is my favorite of the l...

Re: I will play every level in Eternal X and comment on them
True, but I feel like this is a problem for all games in general, even Dark Souls/Bloodbourne. Whereas in a book you can flip backwards and forwards and read whatever you please in whatever order you please, in a video game you're very restricted in what you can do and how you're allowed to explore...

Re: I will play every level in Eternal X and comment on them
I'd have to disagree with Ryoko on this one. As I've said before on these forums, I'm a big fan of Infinity's story and I really like how it was handled. Explicitly coming out and saying what's going on in Infinity would have been a bad choice because it would have been pointless. The whole point i...

Re: I will play every level in Eternal X and comment on them
Out of curiosity, how would you make the time travel clearer in Infinity? The most obvious methods that come to mind are giving the SO a chance to speak, and/or having Durandal figure it out (Thoth could as well, but he'd probably be obtuse about it; Tycho seems to realize that something's up, but ...

Re: I will play every level in Eternal X and comment on them
I like to write stories where greater worldbuilding stuff not directly driving the plot is just implied everywhere by the rest of the stuff in the story world. Marathon inspired me to that, with things like the scale of the ancient Hulk rebellion being just implied by three little comments in three...

Re: I will play every level in Eternal X and comment on them
Whoa, this review of EX is nearly seven years old... one of these days I'll give it another chance. I don't play Marathon as much as I used to though. Bwahaha, it's aliiiiive! I saw that Pfhorrest replied to someone half a year ago, so I figured he's still monitoring his baby. I replay the trilogy ...

maybe replacing the Nightmares with invisible, non-chirping wasps, so you hear them flapping somewhere nearby and you hear their shots whizzing past and occasionally hitting you but where the fuck are the tiny little fuckers so you can kill them Please don't do this, that sounds completely miserabl...

Re: I will play every level in Eternal X and comment on them
I feel like Ryoko missed the point with his disdain for the settings and recycled enemies, the point of Eternal is to explore and tie together the lore of Marathon and PiD. Recycling sprites just makes sense. There is precedent for sprites being redrawn between entries in a Marathon game -- see the...

Re: What do people look for in a perfect FIRST level?
The only objective I had for the exposition levels in Phoenix is that they were very quick and obvious to get through, if you wanted to move on with the game. It's not really that Phoenix has an elaborate story that needs levels dedicated to establishing it; the first release of Phoenix didn't have ...

Re: What do people look for in a perfect FIRST level?
"Honk if you're an underpaid cyborg" is an extremely good level in general, and a good first level because the pistol in Rubicon is actually a halfway decent weapon so the combat on the level has decent pacing, and there's some challenging enemies in there. So it's fitting that Rubicon X f...

Re: The Marathon
I have an alternate theory. Not only does it scan the player when you save, but it saves the state of the entire universe into a roughly 300 kilobyte file. Then, it waits for a powerful being to initiate a universe reload, and restores the entire universe to what was stored in the file. The mararth...
