Re: Marathon: Phoenix Specialer Edition

I really appreciate that the design was built around the monsters, with a noticeable lack of frustrating enemy placement. I think it was only the one Enforcer in a tower at the beginning of Garden of Babylon that was alittle awkward to hit, but even then it wasn't terrible threatening. Similarly on ...

Re: Marathon: Phoenix Specialer Edition

Got a chance to play through these new levels, and I have to say they were rather relaxing. I'd need to spend more time with them to make a more solid opinion of them. One little interesting detail is how effective melee fighters seemed, I don't recall ever getting chased and surrounded by them as w...

Re: Crap.lua

I enjoy the fragmentation effects, if only for the cosmetic application. Its a far more convincing explosion effect. Damage would be inherently inconsistent using each fragment to hurt though. I could also see it used to create some interesting enemy attacks though, like an 8-directional bomb like o...

Re: Marathon Phoenix video commentary

How much ammo you give the player can make a big difference in how a scenario plays. Phoenix is very ammo abundant. Situation where you're forced to use a different weapon are very rare. This means at times you're rather spoiled for choice as weapon roles do overlap somewhat. So it mostly becomes a ...

Re: Marathon Phoenix video commentary

You technically have two saves. One before you even enter the final area (so you can grab the invincibility and leeroy jenkins), and a second whenever you decide to use it. You're probably going to be running circles till friendly fire thins them out.

Trust me, things could be far far worse.

Marathon Streaming

So out of boredom, and somewhat inspired by RyokoTK's commentary on Phoenix I decided to throw my hat into streaming. http://www.Twitch.tv/dracheseele So if you're bored or whatever come take a look, maybe chat, see me get frustrated. I may not play solely Marathon, but it will probably be the focus...

Re: Marathon Phoenix video commentary

Went on a binge of watching these and have been quite entertained. I rather like when you go over enemy and weapon balances. Not just the statistical parts but how you use various monsters in a given situation, like Enforcers+BOBs matching up well. Since one little change of an enemy can actually to...

Re: Marathon Multiplayer Enhancement Pack v1.0

Well was interesting playing this with you for a bit, though I think the changes are a little heavy handed. Granted being across the pond probably didn't help much with latency either. Another aspect of weapon balance to look at is map design philosophy. The Fusion and Assault rifle don't seem to ge...

So due to boredom, went and did Victoria. I really abuse the monster triggers and no monster/item zones. Somewhat happy with this one though as I take fairly little damage. Though the stage can certainly be done faster. As a bonus I added a Power Word Kill recording I did awhile ago. I like it cause...

For awhile I was working on an Ironman run of chapter 1, though life got in the way and never got around to finishing it. Also can't really do multi-level recordings in a1 as I recall. I did start putting together individual runs though, I'll have to find them and maybe try some new ones. Edit: Went...

I didn't touch on it earlier, but the Special cyborgs were an interesting change of pace. The high velocity grenades were extremely accurate, but not unfair. While they had little attack power, The combination of the high speed and the explosion right in your face effect made them feel really strong...

Got a chance to play though it, Pretty fun what not having the assault rifle does for game play. I only found about half the secrets, but even then I was practically drowning in ammo. I really liked the aesthetic of Dr.Tycho's Castle . Also found two issues on When the Water Breaks: Can fall through...

I find Rubicon's Hex level 73 kind of interesting, through its contrasting color scheme. An interesting proof of concept for colored lighting. Enforcers on the stage aren't particularly frustrating either since they're few in number and you can usually catch them before they become active.

I honestly doubt we'll see anything like the original trilogy.

I do think it'd be neat if they would re-explore the original idea they had for Marathon though. PID in space basically. After all the Dead Rising games were pretty cool with their own timed event system.

So I've been experimenting with the Media impact option in shot physics. I've managed to recreate something similar to the underwater stage of Rubicon, except it works dynamically as you enter and exit liquids. I've given it some minor online testing and it has yet to explode on me. However I'm runn...

I do enjoy Jansson's style but would like to see his designs in more realistic proportions.

Finally got around to finishing up the demo. Was rather busy over the weekend. Issues: Crossbow tends to send things flying like crazy. Unsure if its intentional but crossbow shots also cause hard death and don't have a bleeding impact. Flamethrower still blinds you. Shot Origin needs to be moved. C...

Here is what I've done: It's still a little lower than it ought to be, but because the graphic of the gun is angled like that, I'm leaving it slightly lower to give the idea that the player is carrying it by the hip rather than pressing it against his shoulder like a big chunky rifle. The bolt come...

I meant more the gun itself. Seems more like the sprite doesn't match the perspective.

Could just be the resolution I'm playing at but I'm unsure. Still looking forward to the update.

Relatively minor issue, but has the Fusion cannon sprite been shifted left? Always bugged me that the sprite makes it look like its aiming off center.
