The Source engine is an excellent engine, but my main concern with the engine types is that it will work on pc and mac so that all the mac junkies will be able to play their old favorite game and that the ones who discovered it through aleph one on windows and the people who used to use mac but swi...

I can map some, so why don't we just settle on an engine that works for at least Mac and PC then map away? Visciom do you think you'd be willing to lend us those maps for a bit? Umm sure, but according to your one of your posts, you said you wanted an engine that works on both Windows and Mac, and ...

uescsuperhuman, whatever you do, make sure you start small, and I mean really small, such as a simple multiplayer map. Since you are new to modding, I would NOT advise a full total conversion. I would suggest doing some marathon maps for HL2 deathmatch, and then maybe start doing some programming fo...

The rocket & grenade bandolier in Illustrator are proving to be a pain. I know what I want...just getting that final product is not easy. I think graphics designers/modellers must have alot of patience. [MFrown] Yup, creating sprites is a very slow and long process. Don't rush it. Okay - updated gr...

Someone started to do that but never finished . The people wont release the work they put into it for others to use either which is also a shame. if you would like to play an update version( I don't know if it's "better" but...) you can find a completed m1a1 total conversion for Unreal Tournament <...

How is parallax mapping going to work properly, considering that Marathon doesn't have any true light sources? From what I see in the M1 screenshots, the light source used to calculate the shadows and highlights of the parallax map is being emitted from the player? This looks fine for M1 but may loo...

Tim, I sent you a PM regarding the use of WEP sprites in this project. If you don't know 3D and don't have the time to learn it, then I would avoid using 3D in this project. You could try doing some sprites in Illustrator if you're good with vector based graphics. Photoshopping low res graphics tend...

This is looking better and better. The weapon models look pretty good, especially the fusion pistol. The textures look good as well, although they still look a little flat. You may want to try putting more lighting information onto the textures so they look less flat. As mentioned by others, the sho...

Looks better. Removing the red sight was definitely a good idea. I do notice some texture smearing on the bottom right, and some of the sharp edges, (such as the ones on the iron sights) should be beveled slightly so that light hits the model more realistically.

Looking pretty good so far Cryos! [MUp] Try adding more details to the texture. Also, you should smooth out some of the geometry, as it looks somewhat blocky and low-poly. I'm assuming the weapons are going to be pre-rendered sprites, so you shouldn't worry too much about the having large amounts of...

Model looks pretty good. Nice job with the little details. I understand this is a WIP but here is some critique. It looks like your UV map needs some adjusting for the handle. I do like the shader you used for the metal although I think it may look a little too shiny. The model also looks a little t...

Nice model, although I see a concave face on the upper part of the handle. The texture for the arm also seems a bit low res. Good work so far. [MUp]

I don't know if Aleph One can read the opacity of png files unless you create a separate file with the "normal_mask= [image]" line. I'd recommend converting your pngs to dds files.

Also why is there no extension for the image on this line of code: normal_image="wep/weapons/alien/AW1"

Looking good so far. Try adding more details to the models (bolts, screws, etc.) Also, you should probably bevel ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bevel ) some of the sharp edges to make it feel more realistic. One more thing. I think the rings around the triggers of the guns are too circular. If you l...

I like the weapon designs, although they would look a hell of a lot better by adding some textures to them.

I'm on Vista 32bit and DirectDraw/DirectInput gives me a blank screen at the start of the game, but only in full screen mode. It works fine when I'm running Aleph One in windowed mode.

I think you may have overused the render clouds filter a bit too much. While render>clouds is great for adding variation to the texture it still leaves the texture looking computer generated. You don't necessarily have to use photo sources to make good looking textures but it does make things easier...

Why do you even need normal mapping for Aleph One? As others have said, Marathon is not designed to use fancy shader effects. More complex shaders doesn't necessarily mean better visuals. As for "perspective correction," while that would be nice, it isn't going to make a huge difference in the visua...

As the others have said, just get a PC if you want to play games. While Macs are great for work and multimedia, gaming isn't one of their strong points. And if you do get a PC, make sure it has a real video card, not some Intel integrated graphics chip. However, laptops in general aren't really mean...

I actually quit plans on making the Marathon UT3 mod. And unless you have a bunch of very dedicated people to work with, I would strongly suggest NOT doing a total conversion. When I worked on Marathon: Source for Half-Life 2, I ended up doing like 90% of the work because the other people on the tea...
