I'll try and slip in some more of Harley's back-story to develop upon his sub-plots next time I get the chance (perhaps the next time Summer or another character starts a heated argument).

The one you're thinking of is most likely the Director's Cut of Aliens; there's an added scene about two-thirds of the way through the film where the aliens attempt to find a way to get to the main characters, but the machine-guns stop them.
