Re: Marathon Chronicles

Thanks! Needless to say I'd welcome any competent input. At some point I think I'm probably going to get about eight to ten new maps or map fragments that I'll be able drop into Chronicles (basically, whatever is left over from WMAiD 's WIP folder that's any good - and there's a lot there), so I'd p...

Re: Workflow for mapping

If you get Basilisk II/SheepShaver set up, I also strongly recommend getting Chisel. There are still several effects for it that don't really have adequate equivalents; I've used its clean-up feature within the past year for both Eternal's "Unwired" and the final level of WMAiD , just off the top of...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Yeah, if you didn’t actually follow along with the steps in the videos/tutorials in Weland or Forge, you probably won’t remember much of what they said. It’s one of those things you kind of just have to learn by doing, so at some point it’s best just to take the leap and start making maps. The basic...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

Thanks for the clarification. Next time I attempt Acme I’ll have to remember that, if I get to a segment where there are no enemies around me, it’s probably better to walk. Of course, the flechette is probably also really good for vacuum levels, given how quickly it fires. Just take your finger off ...

Re: How do I install some of these plugins?

Oh, yeah, the problem is probably that this is intended for M1A1, not the vanilla M1 files that come with Aleph One these days. You'll find that at https://github.com/Aleph-One-Marathon/data-m1a1 . I think you can just use those in place of the M1A1 files. You can't mix and match M1 and M1A1 content...

Re: How do I install some of these plugins?

Well, like I said, the .zip has to actually contain a plugin, which it doesn’t sound like is the case here. Without being able to extract the actual files, I can’t provide anything more than guesswork. What’s actually in the folder when it extracts?

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Thanks. Yeah, upon further reflection, I think it probably makes more story sense to have the W’rk dreams in that context, and it would help solidify the scenario’s connections to both Eternal and Pathways , which thus far have been rather tenuous. I’ll begin implementing them soon; probably not for...

I’ll third what RADIX and Pfhorrest said: that throne room looks great. Wish I had more free time to really delve into this right now – maybe at the end of the year.

Re: Eternal X 1.2

Thanks, I’ll give that a look tonight. I wasn’t sure if I was just imagining the “breathing more often” thing. It would make sense that I’d run and fire more when I’m closer to running out of oxygen in order to get myself to a recharge faster. Now I’m curious whether it’s actually more prudent to av...

Re: How do I install some of these plugins?

Well, I’d like to help, but I can’t even get the .zip file to extract on Windows 10. Sorry! I’d ask if that’s your problem, but it sounds like you at least got to the point of getting files extracted, so you must’ve gotten further than I did. I will note that sometimes A1 can just use .zip files as ...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

I ate’nt dead. (Wall of text incoming.) I need to get back to this. I’ve been sort of… dazed for the past two or three weeks. As mentioned earlier in this thread, a middle/high school friend of mine ended his life last year, and I recently got a reminder of that and spent about an hour just bawling ...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

I'll try to take a look at the Lua code soon and see if I can't make it more elegant. Does someone have a link to the oxygen drain parts of A1's source so I can more closely replicate them? I'm fairly sure the game plays the "breathing" sound more often when the player is lower on oxygen, and of cou...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

Yeah, I think there's something to be said for adding menace to her appearance. She's supposed to be a significant threat, after all!

I should've added that I really like the hair. That's way cooler than anything I had in my imagination for her.

Re: Eternal X 1.2

All of that stuff above looks great, though I'm still not sure how I feel on being able to actually see Hathor's face. I kind of liked having the appearance of her face, like the Security Officer's, be a mystery, but if people think it would be weird to conceal her face, I'm fine with having it visi...

Re: Changed Setting to "fill screen" now doesnt fit

There is a preferences file, for future reference. The location depends on your OS: https://github.com/Aleph-One-Marathon/alephone/wiki/File-Locations#preferences You can set whatever resolution you want there, pretty much. (I render most of my M2/Infinity films these days in 1440x1080 because the c...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

First off, thanks for making a serious effort to address my complaints this time; those compromises actually sound like I might find them acceptable. I probably won’t have time to test that revision for the next couple of days – I’ve had a stomach illness that kept me up for half the night two night...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

Clearly we misunderstood each-other. Whereas you seem to think we entered into some sort of obligatory contractual agreement, I just saw us bouncing ideas around with a vague notion that compilers would be better than timers. Well perhaps you should’ve made it clearer that you weren’t actually payi...

Pfhorrest: Thanks. Aaron, I've said it before, and I'll say it again: you blowing up at me like this is precisely why I'm so disinclined to cooperate with you. I'm getting enough of this IRL right now and I don't need to put up with it here where I go to have fun and relax. I blew up at you because ...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

Well, someone has a martyrdom complex right now. I was nowhere near uniformly scathing about your work - to begin with, I called your revisions of "Eat S'pht and Die" "great". I brought up what I intended to be one relatively minor complaint per level about "Mohicans" and "Run Coward", and you're ac...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

Sorry, this version of Unwired sucks, and I’m not going to play it any further. There are like eight compilers that attack you on the first catwalk. I specifically said there shouldn’t be any compiler attacks until the second catwalk when the player has 3x shields. The journey back up to the main pa...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

The latter. I have a very “gotta catch ’em all” approach to ammo. It’s one of my weird player tics. I also try to avoid killing enemies that drop ammo in ways that cause them not to drop ammo, even if I don’t need that ammo. For instance, I’ll almost always soft kill Enforcers in Infinity even if th...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

Suggestion for “Run, Coward!”: The final part of the level, when the player teleports out into space, should trigger a series of explosions within a short time frame – maybe four or five of them. Or, hell, this is Marathon , so make it seven. Easy to do that with crushing platforms that trigger with...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

No problem. I don't know if anyone linked it, but here's version 1.2.1b2 of the precipitation branch. There are a lot of further changes we still need to make before 1.2.1 is ready for release, many of which are discussed above. I'd particularly like to figure out a way to make precipitation into a ...
