Re: Marathon Chronicles

I’d use Vasara, but it’s clearly not working as intended. See attached screenshot. There’s probably some obvious fix I’m not aware of. Does it perhaps not work when VML is also in the plugins folder? I didn’t try removing it. In any case, TL’s fix seems to have worked for VML. It’s annoying, but it’...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

I’m about to pull my goddamn hair about because of the tag switches in Visual Mode.lua. Can someone explain how you get them to actually work? If they consistently worked the wrong way I could deal with it, but they don’t even seem to consistently work the wrong way. They keep defaulting to active w...

Re: Limitations

Since we’re talking limitations and ShapeFusion, I might as well inject a completely irrelevant question. When I try to open my shapes file (in the .zip file linked here ), I get this weird error message. I think it’s all caused by a 34-character sequence name; it seems to think they should be no lo...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

I created a Github project for the map, partially because I need to learn how to use the website better. Anyone who wants to make changes is welcome to submit them as commits, and if I like them I’ll incorporate them. This isn’t the version of the map published above; I don’t think it’s practical to...

Re: Limitations

I’m not sure what you mean about projectile speed, but I’ve definitely got projectiles with speeds a lot slower than 256. One particular level has an enemy that fires projectiles with a speed of 24.

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Another gameplay video (should be finished uploading in ≈6 minutes according to YouTube). I started playing on TC and just kept going until the game inexplicably froze (after “Deadwing”). I’m not sure why; I loaded “Tighter & Tighter” with command-option-new game right afterward and it seems to wor...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Here’s “To Make an Idol of Our Fear” with the current Lua script. I got sick of dying all the time while testing, so I wasn’t playing on the only real difficulty setting for this one; I’ll go back when I’m absolutely certain I’m not going to make any further changes to the script. I’m fairly satisfi...

Re: Marathon 1 Redux

I’ve played around a bit more with Lua, and I think it's possible to use it to mimic at least some of the behaviour of vacuums only in specific polygons. I think it's even possible to cause oxygen damage to players only in specific kinds of polygons, or based on a light in a map. Thus, if you want a...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Much as Lia is in M1R, I’m now attempting to debug some monster behaviour. The whole idea of “Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk” is that you’re wandering through a bunch of battles that you’ll have little power to alter the outcome of. It’s kind of like “Unlucky Pfhor Some” from Eternal, except that the...

Re: Marathon 1 Redux

I intend to learn Lua, since it’ll be useful for a number of behaviours I want to program into various levels I’ve made; I’m going to be pretty busy until mid-June, but I’ll hopefully have time after then. If I figure any of this out after that point, I’ll let you know. I’ve looked at some Lua code ...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Thanks. Your idea about Ryu’toth and Yrro is intriguing; I may use that if I keep my original plot outline. I should really revisit PiD’s story (the game has been way too damn difficult for me to get into every time I’ve tried it, though; I usually die by the second level or so). (Long post incoming...

Re: Marathon 1 Redux

Can the monsters access all the polygons in that map? They need to be able to move between at least three polygons to activate. I can't think why that geometry would pose a problem, but I don't know what polygon heights you've used. It doesn't look like any are monster & item impassable, at any rate...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Upload of the fixed version. You should be able to overwrite your old files without difficulty; your saved games should hopefully move you to the new version of each level when you switch levels. Since “Deadwing” is the level that might have been impossible to complete, you’ll have to resume from “B...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

I finally have something I think is playable. I’m putting this up as a temporary link; I’ll probably host it either on my own web space or on Github (or both; probably both) at some point. https://www7.zippyshare.com/v/wFM00Gnv/file.html There are a lot of serious flaws with it, including plenty of ...

Re: Marathon 1 Redux

I'm getting foreclosed on myself, and that may limit what I can do in the coming months. Sorry to hear that. That kind of thing always sucks and I wish you luck. I've wanted to play this and offer feedback more or less since hearing about it, but I'm kind of intimidated by the S7 description saying...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

They look really good to me. They're a somewhat different style from the other art in the game, especially the alternate version, but I don't think that matters much even from an in-universe perspective: as far as I recall, Marcus' terminals don't really have any art, and as I've stated, I think it'...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Using Mono 3.2.8 seems to work. Thanks, Wrk. (…argh, that’s an awful pun. Sorry about that.) I’ll probably report back with further observations soon. ETA: It works. No warning message either, though then again, I'm running Yosemite. I’ll probably have a working demo soon - maybe by Friday. I’ve sel...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

The last I’d read, the Windows version didn’t work with the .NET runtime anymore, but it would work properly with Mono 2.10 ( not 3.0 or later). Since I haven’t tried running Weland on Windows yet, though, I can’t confirm this one way or the other. I also know almost nothing about Mono; to be honest...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Raven basically explained why: the design of Github places all the visual emphasis on the source code download (there’s a big shiny button for it), while the “releases” tab doesn’t look particularly important (it’s centred between a number of other links that end users have no use for whatsoever). I...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

In my case, it was because I didn’t even know there was a releases page. Shows how much I’ve used Github. Anyway, cool. I’m encoding a video at the moment but I’ll let you know how it goes once that’s done. I’ll probably have to edit this post even if someone posts after this post due to the limitat...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

That’s apparently the problem. I don’t see anything in the folder that’s obviously an app. I think I just downloaded whatever the latest version on Github was; is there a separate download for the Mac application? (I answered my own MML question; I’d forgotten to close the liquid “sound” tag. From n...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Thanks again. That makes sense; Anvil’s help was… not always comprehensible. Which option was alien speed, but mislabelled as something else? Also, good to know about the odd-numbered damage thing – I can probably fix that for Chronicles going forward. I wonder if the default M2 physics and the mode...

Re: Sprite clipping with 3D & shader

Thanks for making this thread; I’d been noticing this happening and had been wondering what the hell was causing it. I’ve noticed several much more conspicuous examples in my own play; I may either take a screenshot or point to a specific frame in a YT video I’ve uploaded tomorrow. Which option do I...

Re: Starlight X

I don’t think I’d looked at these much before (I’d looked at Red Spectrum , Second Quest , etc. and found them beautiful). Like the aforementioned map packs, these are interesting just to wander through on solo, gazing at the architecture and marveling at the flow. I should join the Lh’owon server f...

Re: Marathon Chronicles

Thanks for the info. I thought the alien guns seemed less powerful on the lowest (non-existent) difficulty settings; glad to know I wasn’t imagining it. (Was going to ask about algorithms but it looks like you already posted them in the M1R thread under a spoiler tag.) I’ll have to go in with a phys...
