Re: Marathon 1 Redux

Helvius, have you tried 1.3b2 as well? For some reason, it sometimes seems to load levels for me on Windows that 1.3b3 has problems with. I have no idea why, and isolating possible causes (or even more information about which levels 1.3b2 loads that 1.3b3 won’t) is on my list of things to do so that...

I thought it was commonplace to like big butts and be unable to lie. Did Sir Mix-a-Lot, in fact, lie to me? Or is his fixation on them simply rarer than I was led to believe?

Also, hi Wind!

Re: Marathon Chronicles

All the sounds should now work, unless I missed one. For future reference of anyone who wants to add new sound slots to their sounds file, you need to specify a class ID for the sound before Aleph One will play it. Thanks to Wrkncacnter for the help.

Fix posted; same link as before.

ShapeFusion sound editing bug

I’m using the latest (to my knowledge) Windows build from a few months ago, and adding a new sound to a slot that started out empty seems to result in Aleph One not playing the sound. So, for instance, if I add a new sound to the “unused 1” slot in the Infinity sounds file, Aleph One won’t play it. ...

Once again, link to the game: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1BtHg2LzQBth25hxB-AURAs8um3yyCaTE I’ve remastered the entire sounds file. Note that there are no longer any 8-bit sounds; the sounds file was large enough without them, and they sounded like crap. Everything is 6 dB quieter, which means ...

As a person who’s currently involved in… let’s say three and a half of these projects ( Chronicles , Eternal , Where Monsters Are in Dreams , and I’m sort of at the periphery of Marathon 1 Redux at the moment, but some of my content is liable to make it into the finished game), I’m going to second t...

Re: Finished Eternal after it's latest update

As one of the devs (and the one who had the most to do with the chapter five gameplay balance) I think I speak for all of us in saying thanks! As to your question, it’s been discussed a few times before, but to some extent, it’s the old Nietzsche quote, “Battle not with monsters, lest you become a m...

For those who hadn’t been paying attention, Rampancy.net finished their Let’s Play of Eternal on Friday. Pfhorrest, raven, and I were all there, both in voice chat and as participants in the network game, to commemorate the occasion. The whole playlist is here . I’ve noticed a couple of typos in var...

Re: Widescreen?

Depends what you’re looking for (“make the screen look stretched” is a bit vague). If you want the XBLA appearance, there’s a plugin for that which can be enabled or disabled for the trilogy, as well as some scenarios (preferences → environment → plugins → the plugin name will vary). If you don’t wa...

Re: whither Traxus? and other changes

The version of Tempus you want is probably going to be this one . Should be .zip files. I'm one of the developers of Chronicles and WMAiD , BTW, so if you have questions on either, I can answer them. I'm planning to push out another release of Chronicles relatively soon, but I'm undertaking the ambi...

Re: Eternal X 1.2

I don't completely understand how that works MML allows you to specify different textures in each collection for each of the following: Light Switch Platform Switch Tag Switch Tag Switch (Accepts Chip) Tag Switch (Destroyable) All of which in turn have active_frame and inactive_frame states. The on...

I neglected to say this above, but all your renders so far have looked great, Tacticus. I should also mention the need to update the screenshots on the website – if you have a...

Re: Marathon 1 Redux

Would it work to put in a transparent wall texture, then raise the floor (or, depending on the level geometry, lower the ceiling) by, say, 0.5 WU (or however much) for 0.001 WU and use the transparent wall texture for the walls and the raised floor/lowered ceiling of the raised/lowered segment? That...

Re: Workflow for mapping

I’ll try the latest Windows build, then. It doesn’t seem to get them exact on the Mac version, but I know that build is really old and doesn’t have a lot of the features/bug fixes of the more recent Windows/Linux builds. I’m certain that I was using the exact colour tables from the game when I conve...

Re: Marathon Eternal Crashes

I totally get that you want people to download the stable release unless they have a specific reason to want the beta, but if people actively looking for the beta don’t notice the link, then I think perhaps it’s a bit too concealed. I think it’d probably be fine to make it more prominent and simply ...

Glad it worked. The many different releases of M1 are pretty confusing and there should probably be a guide somewhere. Maybe I’ll write one when my schedule clears up a bit.

Re: Marathon Eternal Crashes

It’s a really small font, so it’s easy to miss the link. Arguably a design flaw – perhaps they should make the links more prominent. The website doesn’t seem to have been updated in awhile – the Eternal maps up there are still the 1.1 versions, too. I doubt many people are playing those now.

Re: Eternal X 1.2

It uses embedded MML. The easiest way to figure out how it works is to split the map with Atque. However, this won’t work for the Marathon 1 map, because the M1 map is a completely different format. I don’t know how it works, and in any case, I’m fairly sure you won’t be able to split it with Atque ...

Re: Load & unload polygons?

As for map indices, there's an explanation of those here . tl;dr: you can only get away with so many small polygons crammed together. Also, I got the impression that loading all the textures in each collection a map uses is not actually intended behaviour, but it's nonetheless how the Windows versio...

Re: Marathon Eternal Crashes

I assume you’re on Windows? If so, the problem is Aleph One for Windows’ memory management. There are two options: you can reduce replacement texture quality for walls under preferences > graphics > rendering options; or you can run the Aleph One 1.3 beta, which runs most levels using the highest gr...

Thanks for the clarification. Whenever I get around to rewriting the Lua, that will be helpful. For now, I’ve been thinking about Chapter Five. I think I’m going to spoiler tag this, because it discusses, in depth albeit still in somewhat embryonic form, proposed additions to the story that people w...
