Re: A fourth Marathon??
Oh, I loved riven. It is still my favorite game ever made. You will find that most of it's music was composed by Robyn Miller, the brother of the design lead. Oh, I know. I had the soundtracks to both Myst and Riven when I was a kid. Riven is fantastic, and objectively better designed than any othe...

Re: A fourth Marathon??
-destiny- If you would actually do some research instead riding the "everything new sucks" bandwagon, you would know that most everything you just said there was very inaccurate: The original story was abandoned because the creative director (Jason Jones) and other leadership thought it w...

Re: What is the DS_STORE
I've tried Marathon's multiplayer before and it's fun, but in my opinion many newer games do do it better than Marathon. That can literally be said about every aspect of Marathon, including the single player campaign. And, no! Do not try to respond to that with an example of something in Marathon t...

Re: A fourth Marathon??
That kind of reminds me that Marty O'Donnell and Mike Salvatori did a lot of the sound design for one of my favorite games: Riven (the supremely underrated sequel to Myst). I know that's a little off topic, but does anyone really give a shit about what's going on here anymore?

Re: A fourth Marathon??
To be fair, even Marathon does this. Sure it has 3 levels, but it still does it. In fact, it kind of make you wonder, is the energy shield really the only thing protecting you? I don't think you understand how to critically analyze game design. Marathon does not do this, so it's not a fair comparis...

Re: A fourth Marathon??
Am I the only one who liked destiny a heck of a lot more than halo? ... Honestly it felt like the first good game of theirs in well over a decade. Based on five hours of playing on a friend's account, I thought the game was pretty good. Gameplay seemed really tight and polished. But, the initial re...

I feel like "millenial" is becoming another "hipster": a meaningless term that doesn't reference any tangibly defined group of people, but which is used as an excuse to be angry and look down on strangers in order to feel superior about oneself.RyokoTK wrote:so the term is basically garbage.

Re: A fourth Marathon??
Unrelated, but could anyone describe how a game, any game, feels like a Bungie game? A crisp outer shell with a warm, juice center. What makes Marathon stand out from the contemporaries is the writing , not the gameplay. Divorce the game from the terminals and you have a fast run-and-gun game, pret...

Re: A fourth Marathon??
Bungie died 16 years 2 months and 6 days ago. Their corpse is old enough to drive in most states. And that's how you know that Pfhorrest is the truest Bungie fan of us all. But at least Halo 2 felt like a Bungie game. It had the same complex backstory as the Marathon games. Destiny has nothing. The...

I think this community is already aware of what it's already aware of. There's no real need to "inform" people about it. I mean, I don't think anyone is surprised that a company of 500+ employees isn't producing the same type of product with the same ethos as a 12 employee company. And on ...

What exactly is the problem? People can run Apple OS on non-Apple hardware? I don't see how that's a problem exactly.3371-Alpha wrote: they wouldn't have this problem.

Re: A fourth Marathon??
Maybe nobody cares about Marathon, but being the spiritual predecessor to Halo might be enough to drive interest if a reboot was announced, plus there's all the game critics who still praise the Marathon series to this day. I think Ryoko's point about BioShock is a pretty good one. In addition there...

General-RADIX, welcome aboard. I'd like to echo and expand on Wrk's and Alpha's statements: ignore everyone; ignore everything; shut your eyes, put your hands over your ears, and curl up in a corner of your room; wait for the inevitable embrace of death to take you away from this horrid place.

Re: buy alpha a new computer
One of the best choices I ever made was cultivating a lifelong passion for reading. Visit your local library, kids! I think what really makes opening my email faster is that in my gmail I have it set to display in "standard view" rather than whatever the other option is. But if you really ...

Re: Remove "limit vertical view", add config based FOV slide
I believe it sets a limit on how high up or down you can look in-game. I'm assuming it has to do with Marathon not actually being 3D, so things look weird if you look at too sharp a verticle angle.

15 SECONDS?!! Mine only takes 5 seconds. I was exaggerating for effect when I said a full minute (5 seconds also feels like a full minute when you just want to check your email). And I don't see any reason to buy processor upgrades and hire someone to install them when the OS isn't being supported a...

Re: buy alpha a new computer
First of all, I was obviously being facetious.
Second of all, yes of course I'd like to get rid of my clunky old computer that takes a full minute to load my emails. I just can't justify spending money on a new one since it's not an actual necessity in my life.
