I know the feeling of losing a ton of PSD files, trust me, it's happened to me before. I've somewhat tried to pick up and start over again with textures and stuff.

(yes I know it's gravedigging but w/e)

What are you guys' stance on utilizing these textures in something like Marathon: Resurrection? Obviously most of our textures should be (& are) Marathon 1 specific, but some of the netmaps do use Marathon 2 / Infinity textures, and I know we don't have full sets of high resolution textures for those texture packages.

I'd want to see how much that'd add to total download size, but I'd prefer to have full high resolution sets, even if we don't use them all.

Not the M2 or MInf textures (or at least not all of them).

Hello everyone. I finally registered over here, so I could respond to this topic.

If people want to do quick color fixes on already enhanced textures, I developed a good technique when I was improving EMR's textures. You first mentally break every texture down into hue, saturation, and brightness. What I've found is that textures get most of their 'enhancement' through enhancing the brightness. The hue and saturation should ideally use a full palette of colors, but otherwise they don't need to be altered from the original texture.

Therefore, if you have Photoshop, you can add the original texture as a new layer on top of the enhanced texture. Then set the blending mode to "color," or if that's too much, "hue." The texture will maintain the same color as the original, pixel by pixel, while retaining the extra bumpiness, highlights, and other details you've put into it. You may also want to blur this layer, in order to obscure the dithering that was inevitable in the original 256-color textures:

(excuse the large file, but a png was necessary to maintain the colors)

P.S. I had to use a texture from the TTEP 6.0 in my example, because that was easier to find than an OS X program that could view and export .dds textures.

Alright, I want to release a new version of the Texture enhancement package sometime soon.
I've promised to upload some of the original psd's though I didn't really want to do that because it's a 400mb zipped and contains a lot of Jay's and my original psd files which I don't just wanna dish out.

In the next version I'll try to get many of the Mi and M2 textures closer to the original textures mainly by 're-coloring' and 're-positioning' (already done a couple), also I'm going to convert all of 'em with the new Aorta 2.0 to let the textures shine with the new mipmap filters. Because we've sort of decided to make it a more community based project. I'd like to know what textures people have made / improved so far and perhaps I could add them in the next version if people agree (Treellama, Visciom?)

Visciom and I have put a few on http://textures.treellama.org/

Unfortunately it's down right now, with no ETA for return. When it does come back, you probably want all of Visciom's textures, but maybe not all of mine. Some are pretty bad.

Ok, thanks I'll check it out when it's back on.

That looks pretty good Crater Creator! Would you be willing to fix more textures as well?

I've been kind of busy with other projects so unfortunately I haven't been able to work on textures for the last 2-3 months. I also don't have photoshop on my new computer which also complicates things. [MErr] I still may be able to help out a little, if there is a texture that needs to be completely redone.

Thanks. It's a fairly simple technique I described; you could probably even set up a script to run through all the textures. So if there's a demand, I may be willing to do color correction on more textures, if I can get my hands on the latest full-size, uncompressed sources.

http://textures.treellama.org/ is now back up, with a caveat: file uploads larger than 2 MB won't work :(
