Thread Necromancy for New Mappers? How Bad?

Chat and discussion not related to either Marathon or Aleph One. Please keep things at least mildly interesting, though.

This is pretty much always an informal guideline, and perhaps as a result the convention varies from board to board.
To what extent is Thread Necromancy a bad thing? As a novice mapper, I'll find myself searching for the same questions I'm asking so as to avoid repetition, but these threads don't always answer my question precisely, or may bring up wholly new questions. Is it okay to resurrect the thread by posting a reply? Is it unhelpful? Is it verboten?

If someone would have to read through a bunch of old posts to get the proper context for your new post, I can see how it might be annoying. Otherwise, I can't imagine anyone really cares much.

I'll use this as a guideline. This can result in some quote-intensive replies, but I'm sure that's an improvement over having no context.

Even if it's a few years old, I wouldn't worry about it for mapping questions. If you use your judgment on whether it's an extension of an existing thread, I think you'll be fine macksting.

Activity is low here. You're currently our most frequent poster by far.
