Disney Adds Seropian and Wideload [Sep 08, 2009, 09:48 am ET]

CNBC.com has news that Bungie co-founder Alex Seropian has joined Disney Interactive Studios to oversee in-house video game development. The move also includes the acquisition of Wideload Games (Stubbs the Zombie & Hail to the Chimp), the studio Seropian formed in 2004, but financial terms are not being revealed. The article speaks of convergence between casual and core games, "Look at Pixar," they quote Seropian saying. "They are successfully making films that appeal to both families and film nerds ?? and that opportunity exists in games." There's no word on how Disney's recent acquisition of Marvel will play into this, since that deal is not officially finalized yet.

CNBC adds that Warren Spector joined in 2007. Deus Ex 4, now with sidekick Goofy... smelling salts all 'round.

Somebody predicted it!

This feels like the ending if Star Wars, ep.4: A New Hope. Something cool/great just happened and everyone feels wonderful and successful.

Then The Empire Strikes Back and proceeds to rape the Rebellion from one end of the galaxy to the next.

I wonder what will happen next?

Well Walt Disney Records did work on Devo music via its Devo 2.0 quintet.
Lyrics altered and no more Jerkin' Back 'N Forth...

Dumbed down and totally corporatised up would be the direction.
Disney needs robots doing stuff in big worlds with lots of other bots at 1080p for real this time.
Lifting from other work around the world is no longer an option. Parents and kids seem to spot remakes and blog about them.

So I guess some suit in Disney hopes Alex Seropian/Wideload can pull of some all American magic.
Safe, creative and new??
To sell around the world.

To take Disney from rodents and ducks to robots and aliens?
