They aren't bungie without seropian and crew. Thats why we play hail to the chimp.
Its just like the story of the grasshopper and the octopus. All year long the grasshopper kept burying acorns for winter while the octopus mooched off his girlfriend and watched TV. Then the winter came, and the grasshopper died, and the octopus ate all his acorns and also he got a racecar. Is any of this getting through to you?

I think that they should just go all the way and be super unoriginal and connect everything in one big plot. I don't care how unoriginal it is, it would still be pretty cool. I think I'm one of the only people that likes game companies continuing one franchise rather than branching out. Why take a chance getting a really expensive new game that might suck when you can continue an old game that you know that you'll enjoy (we're still playing Marathon). Although I'll admit, ODST is going a little far, and Reach is just ridiculous.

What exactly is everyone's problem with Bungie?

Here's my perception.

Guy 1 "Bungie is making a new game!"

Guy 2 "Is it MARATHON?"

Guy 1 "No its Halo 3 ODST"

Guy 2 "Man, Bungie is a sell out to M$, they can't come up with anything new so I hate them, they should've remade marathon."

Guy 1 "Wouldn't a Marathon remake be just as unoriginal seeing as they've made the original 3?"

Guy 2 "uh, uumm... uh, SHUT UP, Bungie is still a SELL OUT, they just make games for the money grrr!"

Guy 1 "Maybe the reason they make so much money is because they're games are just fun to play which enables everyone to want to buy they're product."

Guy 2 "Man, you don't know anything, I haven't been this upset since Bungie made Marathon 2 for Windows. Macintosh! Macintosh!!! *rEtarD nOiSes.**"

You are so going in my siggy for that.

I think that they should yet again be super unoriginal, and make some game about the Jjaro.

I can't disagree here. Ok, yeah, even the name (Halo 3 ODST) is a really obvious byproduct of milking the franchise, but I don't think it's any more sell-out or repetitive than was making multiple Marathon games. If you're going to argue about original ideas, you might as well say Bungie never did anything new after PiD, because they made a first-person shooter that featured the Jjaro in its plot. MINOTAUR was their only original RTS/RPG (screw Myth) and Oni had nothing on Operation Desert Storm. Bungie actually covered all its genres before 1994, and they've been coasting ever since, right?

I'm not complaining about unoriginality. I think it's great, and I love Halo 3 and Marathon. I actually hope that Halo and Marathon are connected, just for pure fan pleasing.

Edit:

Oh, wait, you were agreeing with me. Right. I thought you said "can't disagree more".

From a gameplay standpoint, ODST is pretty good. Its nothing you haven't seen already in previous Halo games, I mean sure, there's the new HUD and interface, buts its basically just a fancy way of saying, "Here's some night vision goggles". This game is dark...they pretty much force you to use the damn things because you're wandering a city (alone...) at night most of the time. You get to "free-roam" a city but its pretty much a glorified level select with random enemy patrols to keep things interesting as you wander from point A to point B.
Theres no "new" weapons unless you consider adding silencers to the SMG and bringing back the pistol with a zoom new. I like the level design and the way the gameplay is set up and the new music is pretty awesome (but I'm a fan of jazz). It also has a new "survival" gameplay mode called Firefight, which is pretty fun with a group. Multiplayer comes on a seperate disk and is just ported from Halo 3.
The way the game plays reminds me a lot of Halo 1 but you can't do as much damage. I found it much more difficult to kill things, and the health bar pretty much kills any chance of you running in like a beast to rip the shit out of aliens. Its different.
Is it worth $60 bucks? For me, yes, I don't own any of the Halo games and it was something new.

But what am I saying, this is the Pfhorums. Fuck this. Bungie sucks. Fuck your mother. Suck it down.

A friend of mine and I got a huge kick(for a while at least) of pointing at circles whilst playing Halo 3 and saying:
"LOOK, MARATHON LOGO!"

Ah well. The only thing about Bungie I take offense to is that they call their fanbase the "Halo Nation."
I know they wanted to take over the world(want to? wanted? will forever want?), but I would rather they were the Bungie nation. Halo is their biggest hit, not their only one.

Fuck it, the first Bungie game I played was Oni.

You know, I wasn't saying Bungie, or even ODST, is bad. I was just saying they stopped caring about story after Myth (Irons, those games were awesome, dammit*). But if you think about it, all Bungie games can be linked from a Jjarro perspective. Consider the comet passing in Connacht's history for Myth TFL as the first recorded contact between Jjarro and Earth**: the Terran/S'pht/Pfhor war would then be nothing more than another iteration of the mad Journeyman's "Edge of All" theory of eternal struggle.

*No, of course not Wolf Age. Nobody even bought that.***
**The Myrkridia a dream of W'rkncactner? In Myth, spells are called dreams, and what then of the Sleeping God in PID?
***Ok, maybe I did. But it only got me like ten bucks in the yard sale.

You wouldn't know a good story if someone wrapped it around a brick and threw it at your head. You can't even spell "their" correctly--congratulations on being Bungie's new target audience.

Please proceed to draft a reply addressing none of the points in this thread, but instead employing a grade school conversation between yourself (presumably), and a straw man whom I suspect you secretly idolize.

That was a really extreme outburst directed only at me. Isn't Halo 3 ODST a pretty significant point in this thread?

I love teh fact that you have to get tactical. when you see a patrol, you want to get shot at the least possible, so yo take out teh rear guy (usually grunt or jackal) with a pistol, then the next, untill the brute is the only one left, then you fire short controlled bursts at his head with teh silenced smg.

"Straw man" applies to your comment as well, along with ad hominem, and on top of that your comment has nothing to do with the topic. I guess I'm kind of a hypocrite, though, because this comment probably contains many fallacies and doesn't have anything to do with the topic.
