The Pfhorums

So we had a spam account PM a bunch of people (at least two) which generated email notifications for users that haven't visited in a long time. This is really unfortunate. I've pruned every user older than a month with 0 posts (~700) and removed PM privileges for new users. I'm also looking at upgrading PHPBB to get the anti-spam code up to date.

If you're an old user visiting because you received a spam email I'm really sorry, and it won't happen again.

Someone needs to stop it, it is almost 200 pages now and continuing.

And why are spambots attracted to Chat in the first place? The name, the fact that no one else is using it, or what?

The Pfhorums should really use flood control. No matter how future spammers get in, even limiting users to one new topic per 5 minutes would cut the spam by a factor of 40, making it easier for legitimate users to continue using the system until the spam can be removed.
