I would think it slightly embarrassing that the Most Popular Scenarios page links to a download of Tempus Irae that's bound up in an ugly, obsolete, pain-in-the-ass compression format. True, even a cursory Google search will reveal an alternate download link repacked in zip format, but I know myself that if I was unaware of Marathon's true glory (say I had simply stumbled across the AlephOne homepage) and started downloading scenarios to play after finishing the main game, the second I saw Stuffit format archives I'd begin to wonder if the project hadn't already died and my time wouldn't be best served elsewhere. Unfortunately, I seem to recall reading sometime in my months previously spent scoping this place out that the dude in charge of updating that Bungie sub-site has essentially stopped responding. Is this still true?
Oh, and on a tangentially related note, Marathon- Evil may not even work properly with Aleph One any longer. Anyone else get the feeling there should be something before level one which just isn't playing?
"Yet the blade breaks not nor splinters, though it groans;
Upward to heaven it rebounds from the blow."
I'm sure I've posted before about losing old scenarios for exactly this reason. BinHex and StuffIt archives of patches/shuttles, instead of simple tarballs or zips of data files—might as well throw the bits into a black hole. Is there anybody able and willing to repackage all the goodies out there so they don't become inaccessible?
