So, I've been trying to get the alpha/betas included in the Marathon Trilogy CD working in SheepShaver. For awhile, only the "macworld sf - jan 94" alpha would work & the other 2 builds "first non-orthogonal - may 94" & "feeling the noise - june 94" would crash SheepShaver immediately after opening them. But, if you check match the preferences show below, those 2 betas now work.
And here are screenshots from the starting location from those 2 betas:
Oh & 1 more little tidbit of information: if you open up "marathon.alpha.fat" from the "feeling the noise - june 94" beta in ResEdit, there's a folder icon that wasn't used for the final version of the game
The artwork in the original Marathon has a real grungy late 80's anime/manga feel to it that I still find really cool. It seemed more prominent in some of the beta sprites too.
Also I feel like the pistol looked way better in these betas, the one in the final game is so muddy looking with lots of ugly dithering. My guess is that they thought this one looked too 'cartoony' and they tried to grit it up.

I suppose it does. Hmm....could you send me a sample of the beta shapes file. I'm gonna try to rip it open, see if I can get that sprite out and use it for my next plugin relese.
