MacPro Revealed!
I wanted MORE!
I require 8 cores for daily function....
(That or 8x the computer time on 1 core)

I believe when you say 3 Gigs, you meant 3GHz Processor Speed. If it could only be expanded to 3 GBs of RAM, no one would buy it. It already looks impressive, but a bit expensive. Due to the G5 Tower (is it called G5 Tower or G5 PowerMac?) being replaced, that means all PowerPC Macs are only available to those who look beyond Apple. Steve Jobs and his army of Intel Macs will begin their plans for World Domination immediatley.
Of course, Apple have been very clever deciding to introduce the most powerful Intel CPU last. Who here would buy one if they had the money? Would you buy any of the other Intel Macs?
Maybe Apple could upgrade their MacBooks and Mac Minis a bit more. Shared VRAM is just not effective and greatly increases System Requirements. For example, The Sims 2 (on a PC) requires 1.0 GHz. But if it has an Intel Graphics Card, that more than doubles. Not Good. If they put a dedicated Graphics Card in a Mac Mini/MacBook, they could make up for the lack of expansion by allowing people to swap memory and allow 2GB Memory.
Perhaps, if Apple can't live without Intel Graphics Cards, they could make a lesser MacBook (or even a lesser iMac) with said Graphics cards in them. It would be an opportunity to bring back an old iBook design (Clamshell iBooks?).
Anyway, Mac Pro looks really cool with lots of expandibility. Thank goodness Apple didn't increase expandibility at the expense of a dedicated Graphics Card.
Also, I was expecting 8 cores for a high-end version. Oh well.

8 cores? What have we been smoking?
If two 3Ghz Xeon cores is somewhat less that 2x faster than two 2.0Ghz Dual-Core G5 proccesors, and costs a similar price, then think of how much space and money eight cores would require!
3Ghz on a low pipe-stage proccessor makes for some mighty-fast proccessing!!
I do not quite understand the bit about PPC Macs only being availiable to those who look beyond Apple. How will they get them without Apple? *Confused*

If it's tourist season, why can't we shoot them?

BTW, if you have QuickTime, here's some more goodies from WWDC 2k6:

I think the 3GHz is about 2x faster than the G5 2.5 Quad. Check the website.
Would anyone here buy a Mac Pro?

plus the 2 terabites of hardDisk space that can come with it if you want to spend alot.
I'd have to disagree. The iMac is beefed up enough for most games. I've heard Quake 4 runs well on Intel iMacs. The Mac Pro would be best for extreme gaming, graphics work and film making. Although, there should be a Desktop or possibly a Laptop specifically designed for gaming. But I believe iMacs allow gaming at a cheapish price. If you think iMac is not for gaming, you haven't even seen the Mac Minis and MacBooks!tux0beliver wrote: (the iMac is FAR from a gaming Mac)
yeah, but still.... it'd be nice if it was more game-compatible
