Oh yes, definitely make Halathon an original story. Now, in my spare time, I'd be happy and willing to cook up a plot for Halathon. I've got plenty of time between making maps, and I'd say I'm pretty knowledgeable in the Halo universe. I'll PM you when I have a proper story complete.

Cheers,

Well, my knowledge of the Halo universe is pretty outdated (I only played the first two games on PC) so any help is appreaciated.

Wouldn't worry about it, you pretty much already know the gist of the canon stuff. The canon novels are utter tripe, so you're fairly free to mess with it as you wish. Plus it's in the spirit of the community to rework old stories into new things anyways.

Haven't seen much going on around the forums recently. How's it going?

I managed to dig out what I had left of this project earlier. Didn't realize how flat the lighting was back then :L.

Well it's basically just the 4 remaining maps that need to be completed - after that's done the Demo is pretty much ready for release. Unfortunately I've encountered some nasty engine limitations in the process of mapping that kinda ruined my original idea of how the maps should look like so I'm a bit disillusioned right now and decided to direct my attention to other, more fruitful endeavours but the project is certainly not dead - I'm still planning for a demo release sometime this year.

Another small update - I've been experimenting with 5D space and pseudo-floating polygons which will come in handy for simulating the many bridges and overhanging forerunner structures.

Please ignore the lack of proper shading - this is just a test.

it's not true b&b but a visual trick that only works properly when used against a landscape textured ceiling - you can't walk on that balcony or under that bridge sorry.

I thought the pillar in the middle of the first screenshot was a graphical glitch. Not sure why, but I can't get that impression out of my head.

Funny, so did I. I was only able to understand what the pillar of light was until the 4th screenshot. Other than that, the screenshots look interesting.

It certainly has something to do with the angle he was at when he took the shot. The fact that it's facing us so head-on with such subtle perspective makes it look very flat. The fact that it's a flat surface with a relatively flat texture (mostly just stripes of color) also probably has something to do with it.

Edit: The contrast between the white and the blue might also be too strong.

OK thanks irons I'll name him Captain Mountain!

As for the other ideas - they are not really Halo related - I was looking for an actual storyline.

Wacky idea: Perhaps aliens were coming to seek asylum originally, but the negotiations didn't go too well, so now they're angry and attacking the ships because they didn't quite get what they were hoping to, feeling that they weren't being given adequate treatment? Maybe they were promised something that wasn't given to them, or things were taking too long for there to be a decision (like, say, fifteen years without an answer, though the time span can be shortened.), so they just decided to try and take over just to make their own place to live.

That depends entirely on the plot - technically it shouldn't be a problem to add them.

Not sure what happened there. What I posted was sarcasm.
