Oh good, another topic. I'll get things started by pulling this image out of storage.
I don't know why anyone says this community is dead. Just look at all this activity lately. Once someone announces a contest we'll be back to the glory days.
I dunno, it's been quite a while since I've seen a menu screen for a new scenario.

I'm starting to think 'dead' might have been too strong of a word to use. But to be fair, it's not a very active community. Don't get me wrong, it's a much better community than the assholes that makeup EA's Battlelog. But you have to admit this community's not very lively.Hopper wrote:I don't know why anyone says this community is dead. Just look at all this activity lately. irons poles because he an asshole (though an admittedly funny one at times). Also why's there no "other" option.Pfhorrest wrote:POLL: Which poll thread are you most tired of?.

Hey everyone. I'm announcing a new scenario, colaborative map making project, and contest. Basically it's going to involve everyone that wants to participate searching through the Pfhorums for all of the maps that were submitted to previous projects that Ryoko was too lazy to finish. Then, whoever does the best job wins the contest and has the honor of packing it all up and uploading it to s7.
Good luck and have fun.

Well irons/wrk, you're still an asshole, but at least you're helping to boots community activity. I may actually enjoy playing part in this.
Also shouldn't this be in the "Contests/Challenges" forum?

Oh, I forgot to mention a related contest for title screens. The best entry will be used as the title screen for this scenario/netmap project.
What do you mean? There is, and it's currently winning no less.3371-Alpha wrote:irons poles because he an asshole (though an admittedly funny one at times). Also why's there no "other" option.

Yeah, for a brief while it looked like there was an option called "W'rkncacnter". That seems to have been swapped for "Other".

Yep, and now "other" is gone. Pfhorrest, stop messing with my head! Irons/wrk fucked with it enough when he bumped Rokyo's thread.

Well at least he's stepping up the poll trolling game. What are you doing for the community?

I patched the M1-Redux plugin to work with the new M1 builds. What the fuck have you done?

The community's about as active as it ought to be. Marathon never had that large of a community compared to Doom or Duke because it was on Mac, not Windows, so that limits its visibility quite a bit. So the nostalgia crowd is relatively limited.3371-Alpha wrote: I'm starting to think 'dead' might have been too strong of a word to use. But to be fair, it's not a very active community. Now that it's 2016, pretty much anyone that plays '90s FPSes that doesn't have nostalgic trappings to one game or the other has migrated to Doom, since it's the best one and has the largest community of fans, content creators, and developers. Self-perpetuating, maybe, but that's the truth. There's not a huge compulsion to play Marathon now if you didn't play it back in the '90s, except maybe one playthrough for the experience.
Several years ago I would get really hung-up on trying to perpetuate the community of Marathon; now I'm not, because I've realized that it's kind of futile anyway. It's a Mac game that's 20 years old, and most of the crew that are still here by this point aren't actually going anywhere. We're all mad, Alice; you are too, or else you wouldn't be here.
wrk is one of the most influential lua scripters of all time.
I was going to say that he is the most influential Lua scripter, except I don't think he made VML.

Its been a while. I mostly lurk, away from the forums. I'm the stalker who peeks into your yard from the high rise in the middle of the city with a telescope. I rely on on Fobo to keep up with the Jones's.RyokoTK wrote:I've missed you, Legs.

Legs! Good to see you. I'm glad to see these polls are bringing people back to the community.
