After seeing the support i got in another topic( Thanks Dis!), i have decided to start a map making contest!

The only limitation a would like to see is that the maps be no bigger that a medium sized net map. That is a request, not a requirement!

Also , would some people voluteer to be on a panel of judges? I can test with a few people sometimes!!

It's good to see that a lot of thought went into this.

Erm, could there be a few more criteria than this? I mean, in essence, it's 'build a net map and I'll judge it'. To be honest, that's what'll happen anyway. Try something original.

I nominate AN1Guitarman and Etan for judges.

Yeah some details on how to enter the contest would be helpful. I was already planning to make a map that is better than all the ones that get submitted for your contest, before your contest was announced. Now, I don't want to enter it accidentally. So, how can I make sure I'm not entered?

So if it's a net-pack making competition, what is the minimum number of maps required per entrant to qualify? 3? 5? 10?

You didn't answer his question. I also don't see him giving you a hard time or saying anything bad about you personally.

Give hard criteria for the competition and the 'hard time' may desist. Vagueness is awfully hard to work with.

i may likely be interested in judging, but if you find a bunch of other, seemingly better judges, i'll step aside...

also, i'd like more info on due dates and the judges get togethers and such...

Requirements: Must use infinity textures.
-Must have been made within the last three months.
-Only one map per person.(when i said netpack, i meant net-map,sorry)
-Must have a minimum of 6 respawn points.

It will be judged on flow, how fun it is, and playablity.

Just off hand, here are some skills that seem useful when running a net map contest:Considerable experience playing net games on a competitive levelAt least passing knowledge of the basics of what makes a net map good. Bonus points for having designed a good net map yourself.Autonomy and planning: ability to draft a set of requirements before being askedLeadership: knowing who is qualified to judge net maps, and being able to delegate that part of the contestPlanning: making sure there will actually be qualified judges before you announce the contestCommunication: having a basic, grade school level of spelling and grammarSense of purpose: what is the purpose of the contest? What motivation is there for anybody to enter it? What motivation is there for anybody to judge it?I'm sure I could come up with more. Now, you can probably run a contest if you are only missing one or maybe even two of these. But if you don't have a single one?

Nobody should have to "just say so." This should be painfully obvious with any reasonable amount of introspection.

Please don't take this personally. You can learn to do all of these things, in time. Then when you're ready, you'll know what to do.

FYI, there's an 'edit' button to avoid double posting.

Perhaps this calls for closure, and a new start next month with a more informed predilection? Treellama's advice is good stuff. Please heed it.

I was confused by this post for a minute because at first glance I didn't see any misused words, but my eyes had glossed over "predilection" and now, upon seeing it, everything is back to normal.

Many of the things I mentioned will take considerable time to improve. I don't think it's helpful to set a time frame externally; particularly such a short one.
