Heh! Sure enough, that was my first thought: "that would look right at home in an Unreal 3 game." I haven't talked to you in a while, but after seeing this I'd be surprised if you're not working as a professional artist somewhere. He does lose much of the cuteness when rendered in cold steel, but what are you gonna do?

Thanks guys. It was fun to work on something without a deadline for once.

Yeah I do contract work nowadays for random game studios. I get my work through a third party who in turn gets their work from some big studios. I even got the opportunity to do a couple models for Mass Effect 3.

I've actually been considering doing those for a while now. I don't know if they'd be well suited for sprites though if that's what you're hoping, probably just another Unreal model.

The new renders are a big improvement. I never would have thought a few changes to the lighting and textures could do so much!

GREAT work! You obviously put a lot of time and effort into this!

Have you considered rendering this to replace in-game sprites?

I don't know anything about view/animation frame # limitations, but starting with a 3D model would certainly allow for very high "aspect" resolution...

What did you do the base mesh in? It looks like ZBrush's default material, but it sounds like you hadn't actually taken it into ZBrush at that point yet.

Thanks! I put in as much time and effort as can be for something that was based on a doodle.

I don't think this model would fit well with the style of the other sprites. It doesn't really seem well-suited for that purpose.

The only 3D software I used was 3ds Max 2011. I used Crazybump for additional surface detail and Photoshop for texturing.

Nice and chunky! I've got another (more faithful) version of the MADD up on my page now btw. But I like this old version too.
